Niki Polk, 12, of Huntsville, MO. will soon be deaf. She has degenerative hearing loss that causes her to lose more hearing function with each passing day. Currently, she is 90% deaf in her left ear and 40% in her right.

But, she is not deaf yet. In the meantime, she plays in her middle school band, sings in the choir and shares secrets with her friends. She cherishes her time in the hearing world knowing that one day all sounds will be only a memory.
